Deborah Dumelle Kristmann is a visual artist, graphic designer, and local historian based in
Williams Bay, Wisconsin. She is the co-author of A Pictorial History of Williams Bay on Beautiful Geneva Lake and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design and Drawing.
Her work is influenced by early twentieth-century American travel posters—particularly the South Shore Line promotional posters of the 1920s and 1930s—and the Works Progress Administration (WPA) National Park Series. These historic works emphasized clarity, optimism, and a strong sense of place through limited color palettes, simplified forms, and the visual character of hand-crafted printing processes.
Kristmann’s process begins with her own photography, which serves as the primary visual reference for each piece. Using a digital silkscreen methodology akin to traditional hand-pulled printing and lithography, she creates place-centered images rooted in the landscapes and shared civic spaces of the Geneva Lake region. Her work functions as both a contemporary record and a visual homage, celebrating place, memory, and the enduring power of thoughtful design.
